IonQ to Acquire ID Quantique and Partner with SK Telecom
COLLEGE PARK, Md., GENEVA, CH., and SEOUL, KR. — February 26, 2025 — IonQ (NYSE: IONQ) announced it will acquire a controlling stake in ID Quantique (IDQ), a quantum-safe networking and sensing leader. Simultaneously, IonQ will enter a strategic partnership with SK Telecom, South Korea's largest wireless operator.
The acquisition will be paid in IonQ common stock and includes IDQ's team, products, and nearly 300 patents, increasing IonQ's total to almost 900. The partnership with SK Telecom aims to enhance IonQ's quantum technology distribution in Asia.
IonQ's leadership believes quantum networks are crucial future infrastructure, with applications in defense, finance, and energy. IDQ brings extensive experience in quantum-safe networks, including projects in Singapore and South Korea.
The acquisition is expected to close within nine months, pending customary closing conditions. This follows IonQ's recent acquisition of Qubitekk and contracts with the U.S. Air Force.
